Female Facial Hair Removal Methods

By

Female facial hair removal is a necessity for many women.  For some women, an abundance of facial hair is an unsightly concern caused by a medical condition, or certain types of medication.  These conditions can lead to coarse facial hair on the chin, upper lip, and near the cheeks.  But even for women without a serious facial hair condition, hair growth on the upper lip and chin is common.  Facial hair on women can be embarrassing and can lead to low self-esteem, self-consciousness, and to time-consuming plucking, waxing, and hair removal treatments.

Here is everything that you need to know about female facial hair removal to find the hair removal technique that is best for you.

Permanent Female Facial Hair Removal

Laser hair removal is one popular option for facial hair removal.  In this method, a laser is used to cause an area of localized damage in the hair follicle that permanently destroys it, without damaging the skin around it.  Laser hair removal costs can be high, but for a small area such as the chin or lip, it can be affordable, especially if you want a permanent and very effective facial hair removal technique.

Just keep in mind that laser female facial hair removal isn't suited to everyone.  It's the dark pigment of the hair that absorbs the energy of the laser, so people with light skin and dark hair are ideal candidates.  Lighter hair may not absorb the energy well enough to destroy the hair follicle, and people with darker skin often find that the energy is absorbed by the skin before it reaches the hair, making burns more likely.  Also, the face is a much more sensitive area, so if you have particularly sensitive skin, you may find this method too painful.

Still, if you have the right hair and skin type, and can afford the treatments, laser hair removal is a great and effective way to get rid of facial hair.

Electrolysis is another very effective and permanent method of female facial hair removal.  In this method, a small probe is inserted into the hair shaft, and an electric shock is delivered to the hair follicle, killing it.  This is time consuming, since each hair must be treated individually, but it is generally very effective.

While it is typical for women to go to a professional to have these procedures done, there are options for permanent at home hair removal.  Make sure that you check into your options carefully, and if you do choose to do it yourself, follow the directions closely, and always keep safety first.

Hair Removal Creams

The idea behind hair removal creams is that you apply, leave on for a set period of time, then wipe away and the hair wipes away with them.  It's that easy.  But people have mixed results with the effectiveness of these creams.

Two of the leading brands in facial hair removal for women are Nair and Surgi-Cream.  They're both pretty inexpensive (between $8 and $20, depending on the type and amount you want), so you can try them.  Depending on your hair type, you may have very good results with these or other hair removal creams.  It's a good idea to try it on a small area first, though, since creams can cause rashes on sensitive skin.  Make sure that you test it on a very small area of your face, as well, since this can be more sensitive and prone to rashes than other areas of the body.

Other Female Facial Hair Removal Methods

Waxing is still a popular method of female facial hair removal.  You can find many commercial waxes out there.  They are pretty inexpensive.  For example, Nad's Hypoallergenic Facial Wax Strips are about $13.00 for 24 strips.  This product gets pretty good reviews for its effectiveness.  Another well-reviewed product is Sugi Wax.  For $10, you get 16 strips.

Of course, there is always that old fail-safe: tweezing.  It's the cheapest way to go, although it can be time-consuming and painful.  But if you're strapped for cash, or just want the convenience of something you know will work and can be done yourself, then tweezing is still a viable option.

Getting rid of that unsightly and embarrassing facial hair can be a major concern for a lot of women.  But don't worry--you're not resigned to hours of plucking.  The great thing about these options is that most female facial hair removal products, such as waxes and creams, are quite cheap and easy to try.  And if none of those work for you, you always have the option of more permanent methods such as laser hair removal or electrolysis.
